“China Net” is a film about China’s Internet that documents the impact the Web has had on the Chinese economy. China often gets a bad rap for the way the Internet is treated within its borders. While there are some valid points of discussion on that front, after spending years in China, we also see a different side of that story. This film takes a look at how the Internet has affected China’s economy through the stories of industry leaders and everyday people. In less than 40 years China has lifted more than 700 million of its citizens out of extreme poverty. The Internet is partially responsible for this unique achievement and continues to be a dynamic force in the country’s unprecedented socio-economic development. Towards the end, we sit down with a leader within China State Internet Office and discuss economic fair-play. AWARDS: 2016 Accolade Award of Recognition 2017 Bronze Telly Award

The Burma Road was a WWII military supply line built by hand through treacherous terrain… it was the only supply line that China had in the fight against Imperial Japan. The Burma Road was built out of dire necessity. China stood no chance of fending off the Imperial Japanese invasion without a supply line. Such a road was thought to take more than five years to build, even with modern machinery… but the Chinese built it in less than one year with their bare hands! The same determination that built the Burma Road also built the airfields used by the infamous Flying Tigers, American Volunteer Group (AVG). The charismatic Lt. General Claire Lee Chennault developed innovative fighting tactics for his ragtag P-40 squadrons that broke the Japanese grip on China. Without a secure hold on China, the Allied Forces were then able to destabilize Japan in the Pacific and ultimately force their surrender. AWARDS: 2016 Accolade Award of Merit 2017 Silver Telly Award

“Unit 731” tells the story of how WWII’s Axis Powers formed, and specifically focuses on Japan’s activities in China. The rise of the Axis Powers predominately occurred during the 1930s. “Unit 731” ties together the rise of Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan and Fascist Italy. Parallel to this timeline is the development of biological and chemical warfare facilities in Northern China. Before and during WWII, Japan conducted some of the most gruesome experiments to have ever been performed on living humans. Most of the victims were Russian and Chinese. In conjunction with these ‘scientific’ endeavors, Imperial Japan also launched a series of attacks on Chinese civilians in an attempt to break their will to fight. Millions would die. The United States did not pursue war crimes prosecution in exchange for the data collected from the experiments. Given the nature of Japan’s complete surrender, the USA quickly turned Japan into an ally against the new enemy, Communism. Since the end of World War II, the United States and Japan have politically isolated Russia and China. But today, that alliance is under pressure given the strength of a rising China. The injustices of Japan’s WWII atrocities have contributed to the frustrations between it and China that still linger today. ‘TIBET – The Truth’ is a brief, yet comprehensive, film examining the evolution of Tibet as an integral part of China beginning around 600 AD. Tibet’s geo-political history is fairly clear up to the 19th and 20th centuries. It was during this period that Western Imperialism began to muddy the waters and campaigns were launched to create an insecure western border for China. Additional influences include rampant civil unrest within China, the forming of the Republic of China after the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1911, Japanese aggression that tormented the people of China for many years, and finally, the involvement of the United States (namely the CIA) in using the 14th Dalai Lama as a poster-child and ally in its Anti-Communist agenda during the Cold War. Before 1959, the year the People’s Liberation Army of China quelled the Upper-Class Tibetan Revolt, the vast majority of Tibetans were subjected to slavery and serfdom, a major issue that is chronically ignored in any popular assessment of Chinese-Tibetan history. Once the Dalai Lama fled to India, the Central Government of China eliminated the practice of slavery and serfdom in Tibet. The film documents this change and the results it has had for the average Tibetan over recent decades. Ultimately, the goal of ‘TIBET – The Truth’ is to turn popular culture on its head and encourage a more empathetic and educated dialog between the East and West. With knowledge and perspective, humans are better-equipped to engage in cross-cultural relations. The Diaoyu Islands have been Chinese territory since ancient times, but are currently under Japanese control. China has been requesting the return of these historic islands for more than 100 years, and now they are the symbol of more than a century of injustice and tragedy. The current conflict is one of those agonizing relics of post imperial colonialism, which continues to haunt Asia, Africa and the Middle East. In 1895 after the First Sino-Japanese War, Imperial Japan annexed the Diaoyu Islands and renamed them Senkaku. The Diaoyu Senkaku Island dispute is still an open nerve today in Asian politics. The United States even played a role in the political turmoil that surrounds these small rocky islands. This film takes the view that the modern history between China and Japan are the real issue and that much good can come from the return of these islands as a meaningful gesture of good will and sorrow for the pain caused by Japan.
